In the first two articles of this series on finding the perfect couch, we looked at different considerations you should have when seeking out that sofa (such as space in the room and who will be using it), as well as taking a deeper dive into some classic sofa styles, such as the Chesterfield or the Chaise Lounge.
In this article, we’ll be digging into some more specific styles, both on the more modern end of the spectrum, as well as the traditional end. So without further ado, let’s get to the couches!
With Modern Times, Come Modern Sofas!
Modular Sofa
These sofas are divided into pieces that can be put on or taken off as needed, arranging them in different ways and even separating the parts according to our needs. The blocks that form them can have arms and backrests or not, depending on how they are placed. These modules can also serve as footrests or tables and integrate comfortable removable cubes that add even more functionality.
Whether your living room is large or small, the modules adapt to any space. So if you are looking for functionality, customization, and space recomposition, this is the sofa you are looking for.
L-shaped Sofa
This type of sofa has one side longer than the other, usually consisting of 3+2 seats. It is ideal for large living rooms and allows people to talk and socialize with each other.
They can also serve as a room divider without the need to add another type of element such as a bookshelf or partition. In this case, it is recommended that the longest side of the sofa is touching the wall to gain amplitude and facilitate the passage areas.
Note-it’s also great for families!
Sofa bed
This multifunctional sofa is designed to solve space problems. During the day, it can be used as a seat and at night, as a bed. It is an ideal solution for homes that lack extra room or those who regularly receive guests.
In this case, it is essential to choose a sofa bed that fulfils both functions without exclusion, and that once installed, does not obstruct doors and passageways.
One-Seater Sofa or Armchair
These armchairs are usually used as extra seats, complimenting another larger sofa; or making use of a corner of the living room. They are also ideal for placing in bedrooms or creating a personal corner where you can relax, take a nap, sew, enjoy reading in front of a window, etc.
Ergonomic Sofa
These sofas have reclining backrests and extendable seats to adapt to our taste depending on what we are doing at any given time (watching TV, sleeping, chatting, etc). Some of them even include a massage system. They work in both motorized and manual mechanisms.
They allow us to enjoy better rest, help to relax the muscles, and facilitate blood circulation
Traditional Sofas: Affordable and Comfortable
Camelback Sofa
The Camelback sofa was initially designed in the 19th century, and the love for vintage has brought it back to modern homes.
It is an upholstered sofa with an arched rise in the middle of the back, which curves down to rise slightly again at the end of the back. It is this particular hump that has given the Camelback sofa its name because it is reminiscent of a camel.
The legs of the Camelback sofa have varied throughout its history, giving us, in many cases, the key to guess whether it is an original sofa, a copy, an imitation, or a current design.
In-line Sofa
These are the traditional sofas with 2 or 3 seats (though not quite a “loveseat.”) These kind of sofa adapt to any space and environment. They look good in living rooms or bedrooms as well as in an office reception. In larger areas, we can combine a 2-seater with a 3-seater or complement it with an armchair or other type of seating (such as poufs or cushions), allowing us to gather numerous guests.
Lawson style sofa
Last, but certainly not least, in our series will be the Lawson style of sofa. If we talk about the arms, legs, and back, these are modern sofas with straight and square lines. The main feature of a Lawson sofa is that its arms are lower than the back, and they are very, very common.
A great option for almost any living room these days, and very comfortable.
