Spring is here, and you know what that means: It’s time for Spring-cleaning.
Lots of energy-intensive things are done during the winter. If you live in a cold place (like we do at Fireside Furniture in Northern New Jersey), starting cleaning in early spring may be a good idea. But it might also lead to too much mess and frustration – as people tend to only just remember their hoarding tendencies.
Here are some suggestions on how to regain order against the chaos of cleanups and replacements:
1. When in doubt, throw it out.
If you haven’t used something in a while, what is it still doing in your home? Throw it out. Yeah, we know how hard it can be for all our fellow hoarders who survived the recent Marie Kondo wave to keep holding on to their prized hoarding possessions with their dear lives.
But look at it this way: if you are living in an apartment, or smaller house, and already cramped for space, tossing out items that you haven’t used in the past year will only make your house or apartment feel bigger and more spacious.
So, the next time you find yourself wondering, “Should I, or should I not?” keep something, or let it go into the discard pile. Because if that item really mattered to you so much, you wouldn’t even be asking yourself this.
Just be the conscientious one when you are tossing out items. Recycle what you can and donate the rest.
2. Horizontal surfaces are not for storage.
Your tables, your desks, or your kitchen access platforms — they are for dining, drinking, and working. It’s okay to leave a stack of maybe two or three books–but that’s it! (And make sure you read them!) But if you are into the habit of populating your horizontal surfaces with things only because you want them readily available to you, how about getting some home decor accessories like corner cabinets or desks with shelves?
When you get rid of all the useless mess on your tables, think about how efficient, lucrative, and still homey your living spaces would be! And you don’t have to worry about adjusting to a clean and organized lifestyle. It may take a while, but you will (hopefully) get there one day!
3. Rearrange your furniture.
Sometimes all you need to make your home feel like it’s brand new is to play a bit of Tetris with your furniture and decor elements. Just a minor tweak here and there in how your things are laid out can maximize your living spaces.
But don’t fall into the “style over substance” trap when rearranging your furniture. Make sure that the new arrangement is not only aesthetically pleasing and beautiful, but also functional. You can make your life even more comfortable by adjusting the height of coffee tables if they are too low and making sure that lighting is within the desired range. These aesthetic changes can bring in new energy and vibes.
4. Make some upgrades (or not).
Spring symbolizes a new beginning. If rearranging your furniture doesn’t do the trick, you can go ahead and spring-clean your old furniture.
The first step in finding furniture starts with figuring out what furniture you want. Remember what feels best to you and also consider your lifestyle when analyzing which room furniture is best for the living room, bedroom, and kitchen.
Then consider all the interior design trends that are lighting up 2023. If you are living the apartment life, going with small, curved pieces is always a good option. You can replace your old furniture and swap it out for something small and classy, like the Power Reclining Chaise Lounge, to give your humble abode a stunning makeover. Or you can add a compact modern bar to add a hint of pizzazz to your houses.
Final word
